What are skewers in the context of chess? 

You may have heard this term used in chess before and many are confused as to what it actually means. The concept is quite simple and I will explain it to you in this blog post. 

What is a skewer?

A skewer is a sort of trap in chess, where you attack a valuable piece (like the king or queen), forcing them to move. You can then take whatever was behind that piece, or what that piece was protecting. Here is an example: 


As you can see, the white queen is attacking the opponent's king, forcing him to move it. The queen can then take the rook, which is quite a valuable piece.
